INTRODUCTION

This is a one day event on the first weekend in November, scheduled because of the cancellation of the original in May. The Bar Low is specifically for kyu players and the MacMahon bar is set no higher than 3 kyu (so far it has always been 5 kyu or lower).

Thanks to a sponsor who prefers to remain anonymous:

    • the event is free of charge for anyone aged under 18
    • there is a discount for full time students

Thanks to Guo Juan the first three places in the Bar Low will each receive a €50 voucher for her Internet Go School.  Books will also be awarded as prizes.

Formal entry and payment begins one hour before the start of the first game.

If you pre-register indicating the days you will be attending you will pay the fee associated with the date you applied.(details and fee schedule below).

In the current circumstances we ask you to pre-register and not “walk-in”

PRE-REGISTRATIONS

You can see the list of pre-registered players here. If you cannot see your name or would prefer us not to publish it please contact us and ask for the entry list to be updated.

If you’re uncertain whether your entry has been accepted,  just check our list of Pre-registered Players.

If you do not wish your name and grade to appear in the online list of players you must indicate this when you register.

If subsequently you wish your name to be removed from the online list then email us.

INITIAL McMAHON SCORE

Your initial McMahon score (MMS) will be set from your GoR as published on the date of the tournament. If you do not have a GoR you might be required to provide other evidence of your strength. Your initial MMS determines who you will play in the first round. If you do not think your GoR is accurate (for example, you are a quickly improving kyu player who hasn’t played in any recent tournaments) please email us with your preferred strength.

TOURNAMENT RULES

Tournaments at the London Go Centre are conducted according to British Go Association Rules, broadly as follows:

Playing time 25 minutes
Canadian Overtime 20 moves in 5 minutes sudden death
Komi 7½ points
Handicap McMahon, difference – 1 (where required)

Players are required to be familiar with the Canadian Overtime Procedure (pdf). The BGA is currently exploring Fischer time and we might adopt this on the day.
